Biography

British/ Italian Giulia Laudano is a Zwischenfach who has recently finished her studies at the prestigious Royal Academy Opera School, studying with Marie Vassiliou and Christopher Glynn. Giulia also graduated with a Distinction for her MA and First Class Honours for her BMus both at the Royal Academy of Music.

Outside of performing, Giulia is an Italian Language for Opera and Vocal studies coach at the Royal Academy of Music and has been working there since 2021. In 2023, she has also coached singers at English Touring Opera in Donizetti's Lucia Borgia and Rossini's Il Viaggio a Reims as well as The Sixteen for a recording of Italian madrigals.

Giulia works with Musicalink running Italian coaching in masterclasses, Italian opera Scenes and Mozart’s Così fan tutte at the International Da Ponte Festival in Da Ponte’s hometown, Vittorio Veneto. Giulia is also a private singing teacher teaching all grades in ABRSM and Trinity exams. 

She is a regular performer for weddings and funerals around London.

Giulia has recently performed the role of Zerlina in Mozart's Don Giovanni (Dorset Opera Festival), Second Woman in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas Royal Academy Opera), Despina in Mozart's Cosí fan tutte (RAO), Hermia in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream (RAO), Second Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (RAO), Nancy in Britten's Albert Herring, the False Boy in Kurt Weill's The Tsar has his Picture (UCL), and in scenes performances: Idamante (Idomeneo- Mozart), Sesto (Giulio Cesare- Handel), Dorabella (Cosí fan tutte- Mozart), Meg (Falstaff- Verdi), Third Lady (Magic Flute- Mozart), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro- Mozart) and Tisbe (La Cenerentola- Rossini).
Giulia has also taken part in the Chorus for Verdi’s Nabucco and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor (Dorset Opera Festival), Judith Weir's The Vanishing Bridegroom (British Youth Opera), Offenbach’s Orphée aux Enfers (RAO), a 6 female voice Chorus for Janáček’s the Diary of the One Who Disappeared (with Toby Spence and Julius Drake) and Wigglesworth’s Echo and Narcissus (with the composer at the piano and Sophie Bevan and Nick Pritchard) (Oxford Lieder Festival).

Giulia is a former scholar of the Thomas Hampson’s Lied Akademie at the Heidelberger Frühling Festival 2018. She was awarded First place in the Elena Gerhardt Lieder Prize in 2017, Second place in the Majorie Thomas Art of Song Prize in 2017, Second place in the Isabel Jay Memorial Song Prize in 2019 and was a Finalist in the Bampton Classical Opera Competition 2019.

Concert highlights include Alto soloist in Haydn's Stabat Mater and Bach's Cantata 150 (St John's Smith Square) with the English Baroque Choir, Bach's St. Matthew Passion in English with Buckingham Choral Society (St Peter and St Paul Parish Church) and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzer (Northcott Theatre Exeter) with the Exeter Philharmonic Choir. She also performed with the Enfield Chamber Orchestra a selection of songs from Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn.
Giulia has been a soloist and chorus member in the RAM’s new series “Bach the European” and being a member of the RAM's Song Circle, has also performed at the Austrian Cultural Forum, in the David Josefowitz Recital Hall, Italian Cultural Institute and the Angela Burgess Recital Hall.
She has worked with remarkable conductors such as Trevor Pinnock in Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion (Duke's Hall). Semyon Bychkov in Mahler’s 2nd Symphony (Royal Festival Hall) and Esa-Pekka Salonen, who conducted the Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder (Basilique de Saint Denis and Royal Festival Hall).
